China Financial Management Delegation to visit Asnuntuck Community College Enfield, CT— A delegation of twenty educators from the People’s Republic of China will visit Connecticut next week. The delegation is sponsored by the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), Ministry of Education, P.R. China and managed by Peng Zhen, North American Director for Exchange, CEAIE. The purpose of the visit is to learn about the K-12 and higher education system in the United States, the finance and economics curriculum program in schools, the relationship between the international business community and economic education and how finance education meets the need of the labor market. The group will be visiting Simsbury Public Schools, Asnuntuck Community College, Southern Connecticut State University, and Yale University. On Wednesday, July 26 at 2.pm., the financial management delegation will tour Asnuntuck Community College. They will meet with Tim Hurlock, Dean of Administration; Qing Lin Mack, Director of Institutional Research; and Frank Gulluni, Director of Manufacturing Technology. The Connecticut hosts for the delegation are Daniel W. Gregg, Social Studies Consultant, Education Liaison Shandong province, Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE); Qing Lin Mack, Interpreter, Asnuntuck Community College; Pamela Virgie, International Studies, Endicott College, Student Intern, CSDE; and Kelly Santana, International Studies, University of Connecticut, Student Intern, CSDE. Last November, a U.S. delegation led by Dr. Sternberg, Secretary of the Department of Education, from Connecticut traveled to China to exchange views on the current development of vocational education in the two countries as well as the potential in conducting non –governmental education cooperation between the two countries. The 16- person delegation aimed to set up more sister school partnerships with high schools in Shandong province. In November 2006, another U.S. delegation, which will include Martha McLeod, President of Asnuntuck Community College; Bill McGurk, President of Rockville Bank and CT Community-Technical College Board of Trustee member; Qing Lin Mack, Director of Institutional Research; and Sarah Garrett, Dean of Academic Affairs. Several other educators from the State of Connecticut, including superintendents, principals, and college administrators will also be a part of this leadership delegation. xxx
