Asnuntuck Community College welcomes Freshwater Poets
October 11 at a Reading

Enfield, CT—Asnuntuck Community College welcomes fourteen poets from Connecticut and Massachusetts to the college on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at 8:00 PM to read their poetry in the Coffee House in Café II. The poets all had work published in the 2007 issue of Asnuntuck’s award winning magazine, Freshwater.

Sean Arcarese, a senior at Central Connecticut State University, is editor of Helix, the University’s art and literature journal. Yvonne Barile is a part time student at Manchester Community College. Dianne Bilyak is co-founder of ALL Gallery (ALL) in New Haven, Connecticut. She is currently an editorial associate for Sciencewriters Books in Amherst, Massachusetts. Lisa Butler attends Manchester Community College where she studies poetry, sculpture, and printmaking. Tracy Capello is a past honorable mention recipient of the Wallace W. Winchell Poetry Contest and is finalizing her first poetry manuscript. Carolyn Cushing participates in community-based writing workshops and readings. Mary Ann Govine is a graduate of Asnuntuck Community College and attends Central Connecticut State University, where she is majoring in English. Steffen Horstmann was recipient of the Brooklyn Poetry Circle’s National Student Award while a student at the University of Arizona. Charles Lipka received the Poetry Prize of The Connecticut Writer, and has been a featured poet at readings sponsored by The University of Hartford and the Hartford Public Library. Lisa Mangini is a student at Westfield State College, majoring in English with a concentration in Writing. Rennie McQuilkin co-founded and until 2000 directed the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival. He is the Poet Laureate of Simsbury, Connecticut. Gay Paluch is a retired teacher and an Editor of Freshwater. Sheryl Woods won third place in the Eleventh Annual Asnuntuck Student Poetry Contest, 2003. Jonas Zdanys is the author of thirty-one poetry collections, and the recipient of Lithuania’s Jotvingiai Prize, the country’s major prize for poetry.

Refreshments will be served and the reading is free and open to the public. Copies of books by many of the featured poets, as well as copies of Freshwater 2007, will be on sale, and an open mic will follow the reading.
