Joseph J. Simanski, Jr. retires after fourteen and a half years of service
at Asnuntuck Community College
Enfield, CT—Joseph J. Simanski, Jr. of Turners Falls, MA celebrated his retirement with colleagues at Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, CT yesterday.
Mr. Simanski began his career with the State of Connecticut on March 1, 1993 at the Connecticut Community College system office in Hartford, Ct. He then transferred to Human Resources at Capital Community College in 1995.
In 1997, he began his service as the Director of Human Resources at Asnuntuck Community College, and also taught Introduction to Human Resources and Introduction to Business, demonstrating his deep personal commitment to teaching and learning.
Mr. Simanski served on the system-wide Willis (job description) Review Committee for fourteen years, and on ACC’s Governance Review Committee that led to the formation of the College Council. He was a founder and a driving force for the Asnuntuck Community College Foundation Golf Tournament which raised over $80K in seven years, and started a non-credit Golf Instructional Program through the Continuing Education Department.
He and his wife, Ellen, have generously established the “Simanski Family Scholarship” at Asnuntuck to provide scholarships for students in developmental education and English as a Second Language. In lieu of a retirement gift, colleagues and friends contribute over $2,000 to the scholarship fund.
Having served students, colleagues, the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Community Colleges, and the State of Connecticut with dedication, leadership, and integrity Mr. Simanski was awarded with Director of Human Resources Emeritus status at a luncheon on campus.
Mr. Simanski plans to retire to Myrtle Beach with his wife, Ellen at the end of the month.
Asnuntuck Community College is one of the twelve community colleges in Connecticut. Located in the North Central part of the state just over the Massachusetts border, the college enrolls approximate 1,700 credit students in a range of associate degree and certificate programs.
