Asnuntuck Community College’s Eighth Annual Freshwater Poetry Festival on

May 4th and 5th
will celebrate the

publication of the 2007 issue of Freshwater.

Enfield, CT--Asnuntuck Community College, 170 Elm Street, Enfield, will celebrate the publication of the 2007 issue of its national poetry magazine, Freshwater, on May 4th and 5th, with the Eighth Annual Freshwater Poetry Festival. On Friday, May 4, the winners of the Fifteenth Annual Student Poetry Contest will read their poetry in a coffee house setting at the College.

The reading, by Central Connecticut State University students Sean Arcarese and Mary Ann Govine; Manchester Community College students Kelly Whinnem, Yvonne Barile, and Lisa Butler; and Asnuntuck Community College student Gay Paluch, will begin at 7.00 PM in Café II with guitar music by Asnuntuck student Art Cote, and will be followed by an open music and poetry mic at 9.00 PM. Refreshments will be served.

On Saturday, May 5, there will be a welcome and registration at 9.00 AM, followed by morning poetry workshops by Asnuntuck Professor and poet Edwina Trentham; Greg Coleman, a poet and labyrinth designer; and Dianne Bilyak, a poet and editor. After an open poetry mic. during the lunch hour, afternoon workshops, beginning at 1.00, will be offered by Connecticut poets Cortney Davis and John Suriewiecki, and New York poet George Drew. The afternoon workshop leaders will read from their work at 3.00 PM and sign their books following their reading.

Friday night events are all free and open to the public. Saturday workshops are $15.00 each, $10.00 for students, but the afternoon reading and book signing are free and open to the public. A box lunch is available for $10, and copies of Freshwater, books, mugs, and tote-bags will be available for sale throughout the day.
