Greetings from the Department Chair of Business, Careers and Information Technology
Who could possibly be interested in preparing for a career by taking courses at a community college? Perhaps you!
Start at Asnuntuck. Get your degree and go to work, or transfer to a four-year college (we'll help - a lot!). Our degrees are designed to give you choices, options designed to let you adjust the degree to your particular needs - not the rigid requirements that put all students into the same box, as some colleges do.
Perhaps you want to open your own business -- take our new Entrepreneurship certificate courses. Or, follow the advising track in business to a guaranteed admission to one of the most prestigious business schools in the United States, the University of Connecticut. That is right, "guaranteed admission." Interested? Contact us. We have agreements with more colleges.
Or, maybe you want to study Criminal Justice? Our degree is newly updated. Law Enforcement. Corrections. Transfer. The choice is yours. Or, is Early Childhood Education more to your liking? Our graduates are known throughout the region. Maybe you wish to take our new Early Childhood Education Leadership course, and run your own center?
And, does Asnuntuck do anything with computers? We started using PC's in our computer and information science courses in 1980. Ask your other colleges how much experience they have. Web Design? Sure. Structured Programming? Some of our faculty were pioneers. Computer Graphics? You bet. Take a few courses. Get a certificate. Get a degree.
Perhaps you have read that accounting is a growing field. We have added two new courses in the past year, constantly update what we teach, and have had a large program for many years. Our courses provide a solid base for entering the job market immediately, or transferring to a four-year college.
Office management? Administrative Assistant? You bet. Our degree has new courses designed to prepare you for tomorrow's jobs. And, not only our courses are new, we have also updated our degree?
But what about good old work experience? You cannot get that in a college? Well, sorry, but you can. All of the degrees in the BCIT department have internship options. Get a good placement. Do well. Learn. Get a good reference from someone in the field. Get a job!
Not enough? Check out our online courses, taught by our own faculty - not someone halfway across the country. Many of our online courses are taught by our full time faculty. If you have a problem, come in to see them, or email them. They teach full time. They help full time.
Did we mention our class sizes? Small. No lecture halls. No classes of even 50 students. Few classes over 30. To learn more about Business Careers and Information Technology fulltime faculty memembers, see the department faculty website. On behalf of the Department, I am pleased to welcome you to Asnuntuck Community College.
Sincerely, Bill Searle
