About

About Machine Technology Center

Welcome to Asnuntuck Community College and the Machine Technology Center.

During the latter stages of 1997, Asnuntuck CC, together with Town of Enfield officials, the North Central CT Chamber of Commerce, and a number of private sector manufacturers, decided to confront squarely the challenge of educating men and women in the field of metal machining technology.

Since that time and to the present, more than 400 students have graduated and transitioned to the private sector with the requisite technology and academic abilities to enhance their career goals and to benefit local industry, both short-term and long-range. Graduates range in age from 18 to 60, and both men and women have gained new skills and abilities as well as the opportunity to complete a college education.

Asnuntuck is determined to expand its efforts to meet the needs of recent high school graduates and unemployed and underemployed men and women across North Central Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. The college is also dedicated to the employer community and their ongoing challenges to remain competitive and profitable. These objectives can best be achieved in our state of the art machining center which features the most current CNC machine tooling and related computer software. Presently, we are pursuing certification through a national technology accrediting body.

Due to a series of significant efforts by a number of staff at the college, the following program options are now in place:

Program Options

· Level I Certificate (Pre-semester and Semester One
20 weeks and 550 hrs) 12 College Credits

· Levels I + II Certificate (Semesters One and Two
38 weeks and 1,045 hrs) 30 College Credits

· Associate in Science: Machine Technology Option 66 College Credits

· B.S. in Industrial Management – Central TBD
Connecticut State University, College of
Technology

Students who complete and receive an Associate in Science Degree in Machine Technology from Asnuntuck can apply for status as third year students to CCSU’s School of Technology Degree Program.

In summary, a student, once accepted into the Asnuntuck Machine Technology Center, has available a series of educational/technical options ranging from 550 hours, 12 college credits, and entry level employment or 1,045 hours with 30 college credits and higher level technology- focused employment progressing potentially to an associate in science degree at ACC and to a four year degree opportunity at CCSU.

It is clear that post-secondary education must take a more serious approach to the realities of school to work for youth and career transition for adults. Our MODEL: a one year certificate program in machine technology with a career focus, set in a community college, 30 college credits, optional internship in the private sector, prospects of career employment within 12 months, entry level earnings of 30+ thousand, career mobility, competitive fringe benefits, and the option to work full-time and/or to achieve an associate in science degree in machine technology.
