More about NIMS ... The National Institute for Metalworking Skills, Inc. (NIMS) grew and developed from the voices of manufacturers nationwide. The need for more and better trained individuals was articulated from companies to numerous associations, labor unions, and other organizations. Beginning in 1992, these organizations came together in an effort to improve the quality of training and education for manufacturing technology career employment opportunities across the Nation. In 1995, these organizations formed NIMS as a nonprofit organization to develop a skill standards program in 24 occupational areas and levels. The combination of NIMS Skill Standards, Credentialing Program, and Accreditation Program provides metalworking companies in the United States the benchmarking standards and tools they need to maintain a skilled workforce and remain competitive in the growing global marketplace. |
